It seems that Top Rank favored to give May date with HBO to Marquez-Alvarado. And that Mikey’s next fight would be push back to June. But there’s nothing official for this fights.
If ever Juan Manuel Marquez and Mike Alvarado will meet on May, here’s my early take for that potential fight: First, what I feel why Marquez prefer to take on Alvarado than Russian Ruslan Provonikov? Well I guess because Provodinikov is a tough sell, and not only that, I think he hits harder than Alvarado. If Marquez initially insist that there’s “no point” fighting Provodnikov — who stopped Alvarado last year. That said, so what’s point then, of Marquez fighting Alvarado? What I mentioned above might be the reason. I’m just speculating here. Okay that’s my take, so what’s your idea on Marquez ruling Provo fight as “no point” at all?
My early prediction
I think Alvarado will be back with the same fighting style he used to be in the past. The fighting style where he became notorious with. The style he used against Rios in their first encounter which is to attack… attack and attack. In the rematch he used combined boxing and aggression — an adjustment suited to beat the also “come-forward” style of Rios. But with Marquez, a brilliant counter-puncher, Alvarado mounting will go back to his old style. Marquez will always be the same on this fight; he will be in front of Alvarado looking for mistakes and ready to counter.
The fight will be very good and exciting while it last until Alvarado will get knockdown because of rushing too much towards Marquez. Alvarado will get back on his feet, able to finish the mandatory count but still too shaky to defend. Marquez will finished him off, unleashing left-right-uppercut combo, that will split Alvarado’s guard. It will happen somewhere in the ninth and tenth round.
What is your prediction if Marquez-Alvarado will happen tonight?
