Miguel “Angel” Cotto vs Antonio “Tijuana Tornado” Margarito II: Revenge vs Redemption

Photo via boxingnewa24.com

It was then undefeated and WBO Champion of the world Miguel Angel Cotto (W 36 (KO 29)L 2) back in MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States last July 2008 exchanged leather against hot welterweight Antonio Margarito (W 38 (KO 27) L 7  for the WBA World welterweight title.

At that time, both are regarded as top fighters in the weight class and at the peak of their fighting strength that Floyd Mayweather not dare to face either guy.

In the first half of the fight, I saw Miguel Cotto winning and boxing very well against Margarito. Cotto was very effective throwing combination's from the distance keeping the surging Margarito at bay.

Cotto was clearly in control of the opening half of the battle and ahead in all judges’ scorecards. But the ever, stronger Margarito continued to pressure the Bomber from Caguas, Puerto Rico with tornado like volume punches that occasionally catches Cotto in the corner of the ring.

Margarito’s swarming style started to take a toll on Cotto in the middle of the seventh round wherein he tagged Cotto with devastating combination's to the body that started to wear down the agile Cotto.

Cotto was knockout by Margarito in the 11th round that put Margarito as the feared fighter in the welter division.

However, controversy came up and tainted the knockout win of Margarito after he was busted by Sugar Shane Mosley’s trainer with illegal hand wraps before their fight for the WBA super welterweight in January 24, 2009.

Many believed that, Margarito used the same illegal wraps against Cotto. During the fight Cotto was bleeding from his mouth, nose and ears – brutally and was badly beaten. Experts concluded that Cotto deserves again another shot against Margarito.

But the fight only materialized only after both men defeated one-sidedly by a common opponent in Manny Pacquiao.

Cotto-Margarito II is a matter of redemption and revenge. The fight will take place in Madison Square Garden, New York, on December 3, 2011.

Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel "Dinamita" Marquez III Post fight Assessment: Is Marquez robbed for the third time?

Photo Yahoo news

In the boxing fans point of view - especially the fans of Juan Manuel Marquez, will definitely say that it is Marquez who won the welterweight championship battle held in MGM Grand Las Vegas, Nevada. Moreover, it is also true to some Pacquiao fans who admitted that he lost the fight.

However, let me assess the fight in the judges point of view. Robert Hoyle saw the bout even at 114-114, while Dave Moretti saw it 115-113, and Glenn Trowbridge 116-112, both in favor of Manny resulting to a majority decision.

In my opinion, both the judges that scored in Pacman's favor might share the very same idea that I have in my mind after the fight because I believed Pacquiao really won. Pacquiao being the WBO champion has the option to stay in the defensive, while it is Marquez's call to initiate the action being the challenger.

However, Marquez chose to be in the defensive/counter punching mode, lacking the urgency to wrestle the welterweight title on the line. What if Manny chose also the same? The fight would have ended in a very boring show, but I saw Pacquiao winning easily without any bruises.

Pacquiao's trademark - putting on a show in all his fights chose to initiate the action and bring the fight to Marquez. This is how in my opinion the judges saw the fight and scoring the fight for Pacquaio and yetcompuBox figures will show also.

However, fight fans who are having very high expectation for Pacquaio to end the fight in a manner they wanted was not satisfied with what transpired in the ring. Let's remember that style makes fight, and it is really true in this match up and we saw not just for 12 rounds but for a total of 36 hard rounds.

Manny Pacquiao VS Juan Manuel Marquez III: Prediction/Analysis

Photo via Google Images

The analysis and prediction of the most anticipated fight between fighter of the decade and WBO welterweight champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquaio (53 (38)-3-2) vs Juan Manuel "Dinamita" Marquez, (53(39)-5-1) in MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States, scheduled on November 12, 2011 is overwhelmingly in favor of the Pacman.

Let us dissect few boxing famous personalities about their prediction/analysis of this fight.

1. Nonito "The Filipino Flash"Donaire" (WBC/WBO Bantamweight Champion - Speaks about his prediction posted in the Deans Corner of www.philstar.com., "too big, too strong and two quick". “Marquez has gotten bigger but he’s not the fast type so it may not matter if the extra weight slows him down,” said Donaire and he’s picking Manny Pacquiao to beat the Mexican by a knockout anywhere between the eighth and 12 rounds.

2. Emanuel Steward (Trainer) - Manny Pacquiao will be too big and too busy for his older opponent, 38-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez according to Emanuel posted on www.boxingnews24.com.

3. Larry Merchant (Boxing Analyst) - "Off the top of my head, at this early stage, is that Marquez has earned the fight but he's getting older and Pacquiao's been getting better and stronger." Merchant said posted on www.examiner.com.

While it is true that Eight Division Champion Pacquiao is on top of most boxing analyst, however all boxers defeated by Pacman, it is only Juan Manuel Marquez that gave him the toughest competition wherein the decision could went either way.

In my own personal analysis, I still go for Pacquaio but in a unanimous decision - if Marquez survive any knockdown in the early stanza  because I believe Pacman will eventually get one if not more knockdowns this time.

Marquez who focus in building up muscles and weight, might be hoping to withstand Pacquiao's power shots and choose to fight toe to toe which Pacquiao loves to do. However, Pacquiao will rely more on his speed, footwork and timed his power shots anticipating Marquez slower pace as a result of adding more weight and the age factor.

I'm not surprise if I could see a duplicate of Pacquaio vs Cotto fight but with a precise counter punching of Marquez. This are my own personal opinion, what's yours? let me hear from you by giving a comment below.

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 31:Bayan Dental came from behind to eke out a narrow 49-47 victory against Wizara to continue their winning streak as the 7th Conference of the Philippines Basketball Club in Kuwait (PHILBACK)/Western Union Basketball Tournament continued Friday at the Jawhara Khalijia Arabic School in Riggae.

The Dentists’ win which was the fourth in as many matches was mainly attributable to a combination of good tactical play and luck as their duo of Jeff Espadero and Clayton Sipulbida capably led an offense play combined with some reasonable defense to keep them in the lead for the first half with a 5-point advantage. The third quarter however saw Wizara’s Maverick Barnachea and Lelano Pelayo take control of the Dentists’ shaded area, hitting the hoops rampantly to turn the tables in
their favor, ending the third 37-32, but the Dentists again rallied to take back control of the game as the clock ticked to the end, ending proceedings with a narrow 49-47 win.
