This rematch was build-up by the controversy and drama during the first fight that happened at the Phones 4u Arena (formerly M.E.N Arena), in Manchester on 23rd November 2013. The controversial stoppage in round 9, in favor of Froch, produced massive clamor from boxing fans—especially the UK boxing fans—to set-up for a rematch. And both men adhere to what the fans want.
Groves floored Froch in the first round by a huge right hand to the head. Froch although survived the round, but his legs were still to wobbly going into the second round. From there, Groves won most of the rounds. But in round 9, as Groves reeled a bit while Froch threw in foray of punches, but surprisingly, referee Howard John Foster absurdly stepped in and stopped the fight.
The crowd booed profusely during an interview with Froch after the stoppage, as Froch defended Foster’s decision halting the fight.
Fast forward—six months after that awful night for Groves—he has the chance to correct what he believed, and what the boxing fans believed Foster did wrong. And for Froch to prove that there’s nothing wrong with the stoppage.
