US team member in 2008 Olympics, Sadam Ali of Brooklyn faces the toughest test of his young career as a pro against veteran Luis Carlos "El Potro" Abregu. The bout will be HBO's opener for the card headlined by Bernard Hopkins and Sergey Kovalev for the light heavyweight unification on November 8.
Ali (20-0, 12KO's) is oozing with confidence that he can bring the win back to Brooklyn.
This is the big fight I've been asking for, and I'm ready to perform on November 8," said the unbeaten Ali. "Abregu is a seasoned veteran. He hits hard and he comes to fight. It's the type of win that will put me in the title picture, and I can't wait to put on a great fight for the fans and bring the win back to Brooklyn."
On the other hand, Abrigu (36-1, 29KO's) said that he was avoided by Manny Pacquiao. He said that on November 8 he will show why he is the best and most exciting fighter from Argentina.
I've been sitting back watching my fellow Argentinian brothers Marcos Maidana, Lucas Matthysse and Diego Chaves all get their opportunities to fight in the U.S. and now its my time to show the boxing world the best fighter from Argentina is me"
I have been avoided by Manny Pacquiao, Brandon Rios and Ruslan Provodnikov so I thank Sadam Ali for stepping up to fight me. November 8 I will show the fans why I am the best and most exciting fighter from Argentina! Viva!" said Abrigu.
