Is Jessie Vargas next for Pacquiao?

By Rey Tecson, Last Updated November 23, 2014

Jessie Vargas (26-0, 9 KO) retained his undefeated record, dominating Antonio DeMarco (31-4-1, 23 KO) as the televised opener of Paquiao-Algieri HBO PPV in Cotai Arena, The Venetian, Macau. Former pound-for-pound king Roy Jones Jr. is in Vargas’ corner as his new trainer that later joined the HBO commentary panel.

Vargas won on all scorecards 116-112 in 12 rounds of exciting action.

Vargas’ dominating, yet exciting, win over  former lightweight titleholder, DeMarco (who’s dangerous till the final bell, to his credit) seemed positioned to fight Pacquiao next.

Freddie Roach, long time Pacquiao trainer told that his protege is considering moving back down to 140 lbs. And Pacquiao also has said that he can even make 135 lbs. So, if a Mayweather fight may not happen, which I believed is the case, Vargas could be next for Pacquiao, as what HBO’s Jim Lampley and Max Kellerman is hinting?

With Pacman’s impressive showing in the main event, what do you think of Vargas’ chance? Are we seeing another mismatch early next year?
